Man Gets 20 Years In Large Robbery Ring That Targeted Jewelry Store Couriers

District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen said Cuadros had a good upbringing in Colombia and came from a hard-working family with good values. He also had a good education and has demonstrated he cares about his family and his children. Still, she said, there’s no excuse for instilling such fear on unsuspecting people. “If any of us were in our cars and people showed up with masks and knives and guns,” it would leave lasting impact, Wright Allen said. “I think it’s a terrible crime.” So far, 10 people had been charged in this particular conspiracy, which prosecutors say ran for more than two years and was responsible for 15 robberies and stealing more than $4 million worth of jewels. In a statement of facts Cuadros agreed to as part of his guilty plea, he acknowledged taking part in 10 of those robberies.

Jewelry theft ring leader sentenced in Va

(AP) — The leader of a violent jewelry theft ring has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to taking part in a racketeering conspiracy. The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1bQhKQA) that 38-year-old Alexander Cuadros-Garcia of Richmond was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk. Court documents say Cuadros-Garcia led an organized criminal group that stole more than $4.3 million in jewelry from victims in Virginia and at least six other states. The theft ring was based out of Richmond and members of it conducted lengthy surveillance on jewelry stores to identify vulnerable jewelry salesmen and couriers. The ring would then follow targets and then rob them. ___ Information from: The Virginian-Pilot, http://pilotonline.com Copyright 2013 The Associated Press.
