Haute Couture Fashion Week: Christian Dior – Yahoo News

A crowd of celebrities came out to view Raf Simons’ latest collection, which has a distinctly retro feel. On a giant platform outside the Parisian museum today, models showcased the 1960s-inspired looks of the Christian Dior Spring-Summer 2015 haute couture collection. The designer chose to play with contrasting volumes, namely in long, loose and transparent trench coats worn over embroidered mini-dresses. Flared skirts also made a strong showing, echoing the French fashion house’s signature design codes. Colorful stripe motifs are a recurring theme in the collection, along with other groovy geometric prints seen in jumpsuits, bodysuits and dresses.

Salma Hayek leads Saint Laurent menswear finale – Yahoo News

While Versace chose to play up feminine curves in sensual, close-fitting gowns, Schiaparelli presented only a couple of tight dresses. Instead, the focus in this collection is on ample tailoring and fluid fabrics, with a particular emphasis on wide-legged pants. The waists are typically worn high, sometimes even just above the chest. The fashion house’s signature design codes are well represented, as seen in the wide and prominent shoulders in a number of looks. The prints are abstract, with loads of flashy colors (green, red, orange), a few darker shades (midnight blue, brown, pastel blue, black, white) and shimmery accents.

MZ Wallace and Glenn Ligon Team Up to Help The Studio Museum in Harlem – Forbes

Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane has been criticized, chewed up and thrown out a hundred times. The Franco-Tunisian designer courted controversy first in 2012 amid accusations he threw out the precious YSL heritage in his debut collection for the revered Parisian house by going punk and dropping “Yves” from the house name. Yet the styles that fashion critics, including this one, lambasted him for glam rock, grungy, punk, teddy boy, and uber-skinny styles are now ubiquitous on the catwalk. As they are on the street. The house is apparently financially buoyant. visite site This fall-winter season, it’s common to hear the phrase: “That’s quite Hedi Slimane.” To quote Liberace, the once-wronged 46-year-old is now probably laughing all the way to the bank.

That being said, there are some crimes against fashion that just can’t be forgotten, and the Golden Globes are no exception. Diane Kruger is usually en pointe in the style department, but that was not the case at the 2006 show. The blond beauty wore an odd bandeau-meets-skirt design that looked like a belly dancing costume gone wrong. And at last year’s show, Lena Dunham suffered a serious fashion faux pas in an ill-fitting, mustard Zac Posen gown. PHOTOS: On the flip side, see the best of the red carpet Vanessa Williams could’ve benefitted from a less-is-more mentality back in 2007, with a fur coat, uber-voluminous hair and a busy tulle Carmen Marc Valvo gown. Moving in a more gothic direction, Sharon Stone ‘s vampy Versace ensemble left little to the imagination back in 2003. And speaking of revealing ensembles, Renee Zellweger’s Carolina Herrera gown from the 2009 Golden Globes was just too sheer on top to be flattering on anyone. Although the product performed well, Chief Executive Mark Bernstein lamented that the jacket’s baggy appearance was likely to turn off trendy consumers. “You look cool to me, you see, and I don’t think you’d buy one of these jackets. Because it’s not cool enough,” Bernstein told a 20-something male conference attendee, who nodded and said, “Right, exactly.” The closer relationship between tech and fashion also brought some atypical attendees to CES. For the first time, Refinery29, a major fashion, style and beauty website, sent a creative team to the show to transform a suite at the Wynn into a dream apartment for the chic, tech-focused millennial woman. The suite was curated to give attendees a sense of how technology could be seamlessly merged with a stylish aesthetic. Among the products featured: Internet-connected pendants and rings, 3-D-printed clothing and a rechargeable handbag with built-in charging cables for mobile devices. In a sign that even major fashion players are taking notice, Chanel and Neiman Marcus reps stopped by to check out the space.
